Dr. Cassie completed a Bachelor of Science in BioChemistry at the University of Lethbridge. He then attended Medical School at the University of Calgary, and went on to complete his residency in General Surgery there. He subsequently completed his fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Toronto.
After completing his training, Dr. Cassie returned to work in Calgary as a General Surgeon. In 2014 he and his family moved to Thunder Bay after being offered an opportunity to start a Bariatric Surgery program in conjunction with Dr. Andrew Smith at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. With their introduction in 2014 the hospital became recognized as a Bariatric Centre of Excellence in Ontario.
In addition to Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Cassie works as a General Surgeon specializing in Minimally Invasive Surgery, with a focus on laparoscopic colon resection and laparoscopic hernia repair. He also works as an Assistant Professor with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He has published a range of research articles looking at organ transplant rejection, oncology, bariatric surgery and hernia repair.
Dr. Cassie currently runs his practice out of the Health Services Centre.
